And finally, we’re getting TWO DLC’s for Final Fantasy XVI with one already out today. Here’s what you need to know.
Final Fantasy Showed up to The Game Awards
Final Fantasy XVI took home the award for best soundtrack last week at the Game Awards and Ben Starr (swoon) was a runner up for best performance. Square also used the platform to announce two DLC’s for the latest title. Even after Naoki told us there were no plans. That devil.
A Call Back to Final Fantasy XIV Online
The first one, Echoes of the Fallen gives us the final dungeon leading up to the Final Boss that the original game kind of missed out on. The story gives us a little better look into the civilization of The Fallen and their technology. Yoshida said he wanted this to feel more futuristic to represent the people of that time. The soundtrack samples an electronic rock to really kind of drive that point home. The Final boss to this DLC is none other than Omega Weapon. Yoshida said they worked hard to make this fight unique to any past iterations of this enemy, but Soken definitely used inspiration from Final Fantasy XIV for the theme. There’s also a quest in XIV called Echoes of a Fallen Star. We love a good call back.
The second DLC, the rising tide, is coming out in Springtime which will bring with it some more challenges, amazing music and that missing Eikon we didn’t get to fight. Leviathan. Details are still sparse for the second one but I’m sure we’ll get some soon enough. Until then, Echoes of the Fallen is out for free and with it you can obtain Cloud’s Buster Sword as well!
